Too Much to Do!September 6, 2009, 5:38 pm GMT
Here I am again wishing that I had 72 hours a day to do everything. It would be nice if sleeping and eating were not needed as well. I have just way too many projects. I never run out of things to do. If my Warhammer Quest gaming is a bit slow due to others not being able to play, then I can play my solo games. :) If I were to momentarily finish updating my website (a job that is never done!), then I can always work on some of my unfinished custom Warriors and/or custom monsters (for Warhammer Quest). If I get weary of any of these things, I can always get back to trying to learn Python and then Dejango, so that hopefully, I can start developing some computer games...

Oh yeah, then there's that best-selling novel I am trying to write. lol

No, I never really get bored at all. I just never run out of things to do.

Warhammer-Quest-A-PediaMay 1, 2009, 5:16 am GMT
I started a wiki page for Warhammer Quest. I am using a nifty single-page document called TiddlyWiki. Visit TiddlyWiki.com to get a copy and instructions on how to use it. In my opinion, it is a really handy tool for all sorts of things. I have begun to use it as a planner for organizing my thoughts to write a novel.

The Warhammer Quest wiki I am calling Warhammer-Quest-A-Pedia, because I intend to use it as a quick reference to help remind some players of rules, interpretations and etc... Also, I plan to use it as a place to share my commentary on various aspects of the game. For instance, I have two sections on game strategy so far: Combat Strategies and Healing Strategies.

It is a work in progress. Also, it is fairly easy to save a copy to your pc. Just use the Save As option from your browser menu.

Here is the Warhammer-Quest-A-Pedia location (hosted at my Old Warrior's Stronghold site): Warhammer-Quest-A-Pedia

Blogging Once Again?March 29, 2009, 11:10 pm GMT
Well, I see by my last entry that it has been a while since I posted in my blog.

Yes, I finished the tree trimming. We had to get some branches away from the power lines. It took several episodes of climbing and sawing with a little saw on a pole. A time or two, I was actually able to use my crosscut saw for some lower branches.

But now, winter has come and mostly gone.

Maybe I will get back into writing soon. I would really like to write a best-selling novel sometime. :)

Enough blogging for now. I need to get back to some serious gaming. lol

Another Day OffJuly 29, 2008, 3:13 pm GMT
Well, I get two days off every week. One is Sunday, but the other varies. I am very glad I get Tuesday off this week. Maybe I can get some trees trimmed back and the gutters cleaned out...

Allergy SeasonApril 25, 2008, 1:25 pm GMT
I have heard a lot of solutions to my allergy problems, but none seem to really work, except the one I don't like: drowsiness/nervousness-causing antihistimines. I have been living with allergy trouble since the summer of 1990 or 1991 (can't remember which exactly now).

One lady told me to blow my nose -- as if that would cause my allergies to quit. lol She said that she has allergies too. Well, her allergies must be of a different breed than mine. I could blow my nose all day long and still have a runny nose, sneezing, and watering/itchy eyes -- and for the last few years sinus congestion as well. In fact the fibers from tissues tends to aggravate the condition.

When Claritan became an over-the-counter drug I thought the solution had arrived! But, it didn't touch my allergies enough for them to know that it was supposed to treat the symptoms.

The good news is that my allergies only last about half or more of the year and not all year round. This is the thing I like most about winter. Also, some years are not as bad as others. Hopefully, this year will be mild, but I will not hold my breath -- I really need to breathe.

Many Warhammer Quest Games HostedApril 14, 2008, 5:04 am GMT
Wow! I just got to adding up all the games I am hosting at my message board here and I count 16 of them (two are hidden). Those who used to play Warhammer Quest online in Webquest will know that that requires a lot of work. In this message board format this translates into a tremendous amount of work. It also means that at times the games must run a bit slower than I would like since I sometimes run out of time to properly update them. Anyway it is a lot of fun too.

Anyone interested checking to see how the games are going, feel free to stop in. Most of the games are open for public viewing.

Currently, we have five or more warriors up for adoption. So, if anyone would like to join in the fun, please check out the potential adoptions under the following topic: WQ Game Hopper - Page Two

Vacation?April 9, 2008, 3:31 am GMT
Boy, will I be glad to get back to work after seven days off in a row. Yes, the break is nice, but I never seem to be able to get everything done that I plan to do when I get time off like this. It is nice to get paid for not going to work though. :)

Sometimes I think paid vacations -- at least for me -- are a means to help me appreciate my job.

Oh, and no, I don't usually go anywhere for vaction. It cost money and it tends to wear me out as well. lol

Another Slow Weekend, but still plenty to do...March 17, 2008, 6:35 pm GMT
My gaming message board for Warhammer Quest was much slower than usual over this last weekend. But, I still had plenty to do.

I am continuing to work on revamping my mapping method for the games AND to create a complete Monster Image Gallery. (more details below)

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Originally -- and currently most games are this way -- I would create an image of a map by putting images of each room, corridor, door, doorway, warrior, monster and object on a main map image. Then to edit, I would have to select, copy, and paste. When moving things around I would have to copy portions from master image files to paste over warriors, monsters and etc... to cover up where they had been. Also, with repeatedly saving these edited images, the image quality and thus the quality of the map would degrade. This necessitated even more editing to restore and/or to clean up portions of the map image(s).

Now, with the new html table method for my maps, I will have much less trouble -- virtually none -- with image degradation, AND it is much easier to move things around, from one cell to the next, by dragging and dropping the gameplay pieces (monsters, warriors and objects). However, each square of the game board (map) is now created by a background image, and each of these must be created from square segments of the game board sections. This enables me to move things around without modifying the board unintentionally.

Anyway, this preliminary work is really a lot of work. If anyone knows of a free or inexpensive image-splitting software or add-on, it could potentially cut down drastically on the amount of work involved, making for a smoother and much sooner transition in all my online games to the new method.

Also, I am making a master file of monster images with all their game info attached by tool-tips (alt text and title text -- so that hopefully they will work in most browsers). This way I only need to copy and paste those monster images, without having to add the text over and over.

What am I using to do this? someone might ask. I am using Microsoft FrontPage to created the tables and master image files (with the text attached). Then I also use the same program for the nifty drag-and-drop procedures and anything else that needs doing to edit the game board. I also use a decent, but lower quality picture editor, 602Photo. I also use MS Paint to help clean up some images before pasting (again) them into 602Photo for transparency and for the final master image file save.

Here are two game maps where the new mapping method is already in use:

The Capricious Gang (HTML MAP)

AND

The Fate of Bilbo Baggins (HTML MAP)

Since Runboard doesn't allow html in the posts -- which is certainly understandable, I place a zoom map image in the Turn Text topic of these games and link that image to the html map page. This seems to work out nicely, so that the players can see what is going on, but then click on the image to see more and more in depth when they need to do so.

Not Feeling So Badly Now :)March 13, 2008, 11:22 pm GMT
Well, thanks to some clarification, I now realize that the one who commented on my "self-promotion" was doing so primarily in jest.

Also, my over-night work project is all done. So, hopefully, I can get back to some normal sleeping hours. Lack of sleep can really make me feel despressed.

Onward into the fray! :)

Now I feel badly...March 11, 2008, 9:55 pm GMT
Yes, the Old Warrior has feelings. (lol)

I am thinking of the idea that someone said that I, the Old Warrior, am the most relentless self-promoter that they know.

I suppose I understand how they could think that, because I have been promoting my website, Old Warrior's Stronghold (as a place where many custom things are available) and my message board as well (as a place where people can come to play Warhammer Quest games). AND, I have been quite active in the Warhammer Quest message board (270 or 271 posts so far). But, really, I thought I was doing all this because I am such a fan of Warhammer Quest AND because I like to see others having fun "at my expense" -- meaning as a result of a lot of my time and labor.

I have often been embarrassed in the past whenever I would try to enter into a conversation or try to answer a question put forth by a school teacher, pastor, Sunday School teacher and etc... I would step out of my shell of backwardness and shy nature because no one else was talking at the moment. Often the hearers would not realize what I was trying to say, or maybe I was just too awkward.... Anyway, I would get embarrassed, because I would feel that I had utterly failed to accomplish what I had intended and that I had made myself look foolish in the attempt, which may or may not have been true.

Well, anyway, I now feel that I should re-examine my motives and perhaps try NOT to promote myself so much -- which I really never consciously intended to do.

Okay, Here's a ScreenshotJanuary 20, 2008, 2:50 am GMT
I thought some people may never actually click on some links I provide here to see my new message board. Therefore, I am posting a few screenshots of my Mutant Chronicles online board game. If anyone wants to see the message board, I have made the first image into a link to the board as well. :)

My Board Nominated?January 6, 2008, 11:40 pm GMT
Wow! I was pleasantly surprised to see that my message board, WQ-WHQ Old Warrior was nominated as one of the ten to be voted upon for BotW (Board of the Week). It seems that so much of my hard work is paying off -- at least in that the board is appealing to a few people.

Whether the reader votes for my board or not, I would encourage you to visit the topic and check out the nominated boards and vote as you desire.

I was getting lonely...December 31, 2007, 5:23 am GMT
Yeah, it seems the Warhammer Quest and new Mutant Chronicles game as well have been forsaken by the gamers for the holiday season. So, I got to looking around at Boardgamegeek.com. There I found some places where my comments were... perhaps appropriate. I also promoted my website for custom Warhammer Quest things, Old Warrior's Stronghold

I am really looking forward to receiving some custom stuff for the Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel board game that someone is likely to send me soon. That would be really swell, since my creative and adaptive thoughts just keep simmering and stirring, awaiting my slower typing and technical pc skills to catch up... ;)

Anyway, if anyone happens to read this Old Warrior's Online Journal, have a Happy New Year! :)

"Tackle" Indeed!December 21, 2007, 3:41 am GMT
Yes, that was what I said in my last Old Warrior's Online Journal entry (OWOJ?... hmmm... no one would even have the slightest idea if I used the initials... LOL) . I said tackle. If you don't know what I am talking about, then you didn't read my last entry, OR you have already forgotten (not a good sign whichever way we look at it -- the forgetting part I mean. ;) ).

Anyway, the new project is going splendidly in my opinion.

Here are some samples from the beloved Old Warrior's Mutant Chronicles (online version of the "Seige of the Citadel" board game):

I added background color to the corporation trays' Doomtrooper avatars...

Here is the one I did the most seamlessly I think.

Much work has been done so far; and, we shall soon be ready to begin the very first mission*, Trial by Fire (a training mission for some of the more basic game-play rules.

*Ahem! I still need one or two players, depending upon whether a certain potential player gives me word one way or the other.

Please visit my recruiting topic, Old Warrior's Mutant Chronicles (Volunteer to Play?), if interesting in playing this type of game online. Oh, and be sure to read my Mutant Chronicles message board rules before volunteering. ;)

Yes, I think I will try to tackle a new project: Old Warrior's Mutant Chronicles (an online, message board version of the old board game, Mutant Chronicles: Seige of the Citadel.

Here is the topic link in my message board where I plan to recruit players for ths game.

Animated Map ImagesDecember 10, 2007, 5:22 am GMT
An experimental feature in the newest Warhammer Quest game in my message board is the animated map image.

Here is an animation of the first turn of the game, Dungeonus Classicus: Initiation.

I want to express thanks to PaulusWHQ for creating the animated image(s) from my still images.

My To Do ListDecember 9, 2007, 8:02 pm GMT
Oh dear! Even playing requires a To Do List at times. :)

I am finding that I seem to be getting behind on some of the background and creative work that must be done to continue the Warhammer Quest games in my message board and to try to keep Old Warrior's Stronghold well-defended against the intrusion of such enemies as Stagnation, Atrophy, and Custom Warrior Malnourishment.

Here is a brief list that I have started in a hidden topic in my message board.

Quote:

Things to do for WHQ. :)

Finish Higher levels of Monster Tables for Annihilation Game

More Blog entries... ?

(Well, that last one (blog) is done for now.) ;)

Oh, yes, players in my games and visitors at my Stronghold (website) and message board may feel free to make suggestions as to what they would like me to do as well. Whether I actually add them to my To Do List or not, I will most certainly consider such suggestions. To make suggestions related to Warhammer Quest (especially) please post a reply in Old Warrior's Message Board or send me an email or PM.

For off-topic suggestions and comments, please use the Off Topic Things topic in my message board. :)

Let the Games Go On!December 8, 2007, 6:28 am GMT
Thanks to the quick return of two fine Warhammer Quest players (Starfighter and Aecrylis), I now have more than enough to keep me busy again!

I guess I already had plenty to do, seeing that I have several solo games going... But, it just isn't the same. It seems I gain a certain amount of satisfaction from knowing that others, though few in number, are actually enjoying the games that I am able to orchestrate here.

Add to this fact that some have expressed much appreciation for my Warhammer Quest custom stuff website,

Image,

and I really feel like I am contributing to something special.

I mean where else in this world can one destroy evil monsters, save the lives of friends, rescue maidens in distress, find great treasures, write fairy tales using a sometimes-over-active imagination, and etc.... ? Well, there likely are other means to accomplish these things, but this one has a special place in my heart and mind. :)

Warriors Missing in Action?December 8, 2007, 5:18 am GMT
Oh dear me! I have been given a bit of a reprieve from updating the games this week, since two of the most active players (Starfighter and Aecrylis) have been missing much of the time from the games.

This fact, plus the arrival of a Warhammer Quest gamer by the ID of Paulus WHQ, with whom I doubt I ever got to play (back in the days of Webquest), led me to dive into the creation of a brand new WQ game in my message board --- as if I didn't have enough of them already! ;)

This new game, currently entitled Dungeonus Classicus: Initiation, features the four original warrior types found in the Warhammer Quest game -- Barbarian, Elf, Wizard and Dwarf. This is an interesting combination, considering that most of the games I GM here have one or more custom warriors -- the majority I think having 2 to 4 custom warriors.

Anyway, I am hoping that our fellow gamers, who have been at least partly missing in action, will soon return to the "front lines" of monster-slaying action. I also hope even more so that nothing bad has hindered them from playing (good hindrances are okay).

EDIT: Now, I see Aecrylis visiting my message board. This is great news! (I hope). Perhaps, now the games will become more active again! :)

WelcomeDecember 8, 2007, 5:00 am GMT
Welcome to Old Warrior's Online Journal. ("Blog" sounds a bit ugly to me, but then again I am not very handsome myself. :) )

Primarily, I intend this journal for the users of my WQ-WHQ Old Warrior message board. The public, however, is welcome to read. I am just unsure as to how interesting it may be to the general reader.

I am thinking of posting here some observations, plans, wishes, musings and etc... which relate to the game Warhammer Quest and the online version(s) of this game. But, I may also comment some on my life circumstances and other subjects that might be of interest to my fellow gamers.

If the reader becomes inspired to respond to anything I write here, he may visit my message board and post in my Off Topic Things topic, or wherever the subject seems appropriate elsewhere in the forums and topics available.
